The Irony of Christmas
By Larry Chadwick

It is the season of the Christmas child,
When we pause to acknowledge Him.
Dressed in the best that we can afford,
In an elegant church named for Him.

Never mind the irony of the moment,
That He arrived born in a lowly stable.
Or that He chose to arrive as a baby,
Poorly clothed and by choice not able.

Oh, we have the best that we can afford,
While God gave the best that He had.
We acquire all the skills of our ability,
While He gave up His skills, how sad.

Don’t you think that He must wonder,
If we’ll ever get the point at all;
About why the God of the universe,
Chose to be born in a lowly stall.

Merry Christmas eve, Larry. I just popped in for a minute and what to my wondering sometimes (wandering) eyes should appear....
Seriously, you write a good piece here. It always amazes me that some people will push and shove and some will even steal this time of year just to give someone a gift. The gifts of kindness, compassion and love are the gifts everyone needs, yet sometimes are left sitting on the shelf. Have a wonderful holiday my kind friend.

nice reflective piece, and can be used to getting people to be a little less demanding in this material world. My best to you.

Madame Chipmunk,
A thoughtful question asked by my wife yesterday who suggested she thought there was a poem in there somewhere.

Very nicely said.My ten year old made a comment to me the other day.He said most people forget the true meaning of Christmas. It's for celebrating the birth of Jesus, showing love and compassion, being there for people, and helping out those that are less fortunate. All of this from my son.How sad is that, that he would notice this and some adults can't even see it.

Very ironic indeed.  We dress to impress and purchase to please this time of year don't we.  Ah, very lovely piece.

Duncan,
LOL Nothing hypoctritical about grateful glutons, eh? You're so funny. I don't think we need Christmas to expose our hypocrisy Duncan.

BRAVO!!! I LOVE IT!!! (big hugggssssss) It is ironic indeed, but I feel deep down, maybe God did so to teach him the compassion and the Golden Rule of love, and that love is in no status or wealth at all, but he will love all and will help the poor and needy and give them love and strength, for he too was like them once. (sigh) Soooooooo beautiful, sweet friend! God Bless You! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
