Dearest Lou...

How many times have I thought to say I love you?
More than I can count of the stars that shine above.
How many times have I seen the gleam of your eyes?
More than the depth of all the oceans of the earth.

Have I ever forgotten that you do dearly love me?
Have I ever felt that you didn’t notice my eyes?
Do I sometimes feel a little less that I should be?
Will my heart ever forget to tremble to your sighs?

You have stood at my side for over thirty years.
You have faithfully been here each waking day.
We both have shared laughter and many tears.
I would not, even if I could..have any other way.

I gave you my heart when we both said I do.
I didn’t give it to you because you made me.
I did it solely for one reason,   I so do love you.
For that reason, you keep my heart’s key.

We have raised three children, together.
Even when apart, you were still at my side.
Through sun, rain, wind, and stormy weather.
We both made the trip...the very same ride.

I will try harder, I must...for you deserve this.
Deserve to be placed on that pedestal high.
The one in my mind, next to our first kiss.
To be cherished,  loved...a gleam in my eye.
