~* Homeless For The Holidays *~

Sometimes the holidays aren’t cheerful,
For those alone, old or depressed.
There are no parties to go to,
No reasons to even get dressed.

The clock ticks by so slowly,
They don’t sing Christmas tunes,
And far to many old and lonely,
Just hole up away in their rooms.

Those in shelters see people go by,
On their way celebrating holiday cheer,
While they are alone and so lonely,
Just trying to hold back a tear.

No families to share the holidays with,
Or simply forgotten by daughter or son.
Without family to share Christmas with,
Pieces of their mind become undone.

Take a second before the carols you sing,
Think about those that have no one or anything.
I don’t want to put a damper on your holiday,
But can you spare something to give or bring?

Some live on the street in the cold and the rain,
In hopelessness they exist these holiday weeks,
Trying to just stay as warm as they can,
While tears freeze running down their cheeks.

They hear “Happy Holidays” everywhere,
And see it on signs in every store.
This makes the lonely, even lonelier,
And they wonder what are they living for.

The depressed and despondent grow worse
With each carol they heard sung.
Praying for the holidays to somehow be over,
And a brand New Year will have begun.

~*~

There are food banks, drop-offs, collection boxes for toys,
any blankets, jackets, warm clothing you can spare in every city.

The main thing to remember about these folks is,
they aren’t only homeless at Christmas, but all through the year!

~* God Bless You This Season *~

Thanks for reminding everyone Sharon.
I dropped off a box of coats a couple of weeks ago and will be doing more to help out during the Christmas season...and all year.  At times we get so wrapped up in our own day to day activities we 'forget to remember.'
Thank you again and Christmas blessings to you and yours.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Sharon, this is so very sad, my heart is with all these people, and I wish I could give something to everyone, though I'm doing the best I can for them! I've been helping out at the Assisted Living Center and making the elderly feel loved and special, and I also have donated gifts and food for homeless children at the Denver Rescue Mission! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are a true angel to us all! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Your writing is of such caring.  I know these homeless people as my place of employment is right across the street from a place which houses them daily.  There are so many of these poor people around the world.  I am reminded every day.
Thank you for sharing this.  Roger

Oh, this is so true and so unfair. I wish the world was not like this. No one should be homeless..
I hope that the donations given help to make things a little less terrible for them. But few homes are donated, sadly. When you think of the riches of  many, you have to wonder why anyone should be in this situation.
Bless you for remembering them in this poem.

Aw, this poem is so sad, many people don't realize what they really have during these "Happy Holidays".  I know now.  This poem literally brought a tear to my eye, and I am one who doesn't cry very easily.  I thought that this thought was expressed excellently, and was a point very well made Sharon! (huggggsss)

Oh Sharon, I have tears in my eyes as I read this. I just got through donating some of my clothes, and I'm ready to do more!
It is true that helping a little bit goes a LONG WAY! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Sharon,
A little group (6 people) in our church wanted to sponsor some families through the social services. Ended up sponsoring 132 families. They had six pickup loads of gifts brand new and wrapped. We can make a difference. It was exhilarating! Great reminder...Merry Christmas.

Every word, a heartbeat. Every heartbeat a tear. We, the fortunate, sometimes forget how many are in need. How many are praying for a helping hand, a smile, a poem such as this one to remind us to be thankful and to share our gifts. A warm (((hug))) for you my friend.
Love and peace Maggie ((~.~))

Sometimes reality really hurts both those who see it, and those who live it.  I want to thank you for looking, feeling and for caring enough to do something about it.  Thank you all and the very best of the season to you.

Mysteria-
   Thanks for the important reminder.
It's so easy to take things for granted,
but we all need to remember that there
are so many who have little to nothing.
What may seem like the smallest thing,
to us, can make a world of difference
   in the life of another.
   Happy Holidays.
   Hugs,
   ~Vicky

Thank you for the nice response Vicky, and nothing is ever to small really if given from the heart!  There is a ton of need, so whatever people can give or do is really appreciated, this I know.  Merry Christmas Cactus Cutie!

As a child, I was brought up to go through my toys, books, games, anything we had grown too old for, or had lost interest in, and were expected to get them ready to give to the Salvation Army.  One thing I could not give away were my books.

As an adult...I still do the same, with those things either given me, or that I hadn't seen in a month of Sundays and are just taking up space when they could be doing someone else some good...

some things, we just don't grow out of

Sunshine - We have the Salvation Army here too but we call it the Sally Anne!  Same tradition is in our family and many others, as I went by the other day and saw the mounds of bags there.  Great tradition to uphold, and thank you.
