Winter's night falls,
absolute darkness
drowning out the light,
swallowing it down
to the very

-pinpoint-

of existence.

The cruel words you uttered
resound in my mind
as I sink below
the damp, freshly-turned earth.
My skin is frozen,
numbed by the cold,
longing for the warmth of your touch.

But you willingly left me
to die here alone,
entombed in my quiet despair.

Phantom fingers brush my cheek
with tender concern
as my heart goes to sleep.
Icy cold surrounds my soul
as welcoming darkness
calls me home.

One day, the sun will shine again
and bathe my face with rays of bliss.
The sweet summer breeze will softly sigh,
its gentle whisper once more coaxing color
into my pallid ivory features.

But until then,
in this shallow grave

I wait

for the clouds to disappear,
and for love's gentle thaw
to revive me.

Oh, I love the way you throw the darkness into the light, thereby making it more visible and tangible.  Lost love's chill
awaiting warm rays of love's light.
           Well done!

DarkAngelChelle - a very telling writing, and told from within. Sun shine will happen again, I also believe this...

*sigh* such sadness fills this poem and then the light shines with hope at the end. I am glad the grave that traps you is shallow for I believe, too, that you will raise to feel again the warming rays of the sun. My heart goes out to you. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Michelle, my heart cries out to you, such sadness and despair fills this poem, though also hope shines too! (sigh) I know with all my heart that you will again crawl and embrace the sunshine and feel love and joy from the grave! (sigh) Just believe in yourself, and listen to your loving heart, and you can achieve anything! (sigh) So sad but well-written, sweet friend, we all love you so much! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michelle, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

A beautiful poem, so dark and yet so full of hope.  I love the way you take the reader from the darkness to the light.
Well done, Chelle.

Is this the same Michelle Hamilton from the old Moontown site.  I never pictured you being from Kansas.

I don't know if you remember me, but I used to go under Dledge95 at the old MT site.  Anyway, this is very good.  It definitely captures the essense of lost love and the despair that follows it.  Well done.
