The Magic Of Christmas Snow

Tears streak her tired face
she has tried so hard
to bring cheer to this apartment
but still it is barren of things

This night is Christmas Eve
and though she has worked late,
still there was no money
to purchase even a small gift

As she looks around the empty room
she sighs and tears again run free
for no tree, no gifts, or special treats
to bring giggles of laughter to her children

A small smile lights her eyes
as she remembers the little chicken
given her and she sends high
a silent prayer of gratitude

Their day may not be filled with toys,
sugar candy, gumdrops and minty candy canes
that paint the lips red as they are sucked
with giggles of delight by children

Still, there will be laughter and song
within this tiny place where
they have laboured together to fill
it with love and compassion for each other

She looks out the window and gasps with pleasure
as she watches the big flakes of snow
fall gently to the ground and remembers
Christmases of her own childhood

Her mother always prayed for snow on Christmas Eve
for she said that this was magic snow and brought
with it the magic of Christmas Eve when miracles
would happen to all those who believed

A longing sigh escapes her as she feels the
still strong belief in the magic of Christmas
Eve snow flow though her leaving behind
a feeling of peace and contentment

Karen..this is a beautiful and tender write.
Love flows from the words...A mother's love
is so evident within the picture that you
have painted...Christmas is about love and
family...about our Saviour...not just about
presents...

Thank You for a beautiful write...

Karen, this is a touching story, very lovely. But..I just don't like snow. Though if it is ever beautiful, it would be on Christmas eve..)

Superb write, Karen.  Really all we ever need is love.  Presents and all those material things are meaningless without someone special to share them with.  Enjoyed this one.

Somebody told me today they’re forceasting rain for Christmas, and Christmas Eve and Christmas day are the only days I like to see snow…bah humbug!! Lol
Beautiful story Karen, makes me feel fortunate for what I am blessed with. And, isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Its not the commercialized fantasy of Christmas but the true meaning of giving that makes the most of it. In some small way having it snow for the holiday just completes the picture.

This fit well to my day, an associate at work who has been in need of her own home for her and her family (has been living with an aunt and her own family) just received word that they will have such a place for Christmas thanks to donations to help them pay the security deposit. They may not have much for gifts but they have each other and friends to help them through it.

Excellent write Karen  (hehe ...) TY *s

The poem is really right on, Karen, with the truest spirit of the season. And the reply from Shadowed? A warm expression of giving.
