Why is there always that one person out of so many that is the victim
Or that one person who is in the wrong place at the wrong time
What makes that soul stand out from all the rest be the chosen one
How is it someone no matter what is never first or on top to never shine

The one who tries so hard to please maybe too hard never once to please
The smile that never reaches the eyes the tears that fall inside
Always hunting always open always ready for love waiting as hope flees
Or standing back not able to reach out as all hopes fall far and wide

Who decides it is her or him to view but never the one to achieve
Or the young child that just knows they will never really fit
The smell of except me is there yet the dream of exceptence is not to be
The eyes the window of the soul flicker with hope but are never lit

Today when you look really look you will see what I mean for you to see
The ones who hunger for something anything wanting to reach out try again
Never giving up always ready for a crumb of happiness only to see it flee
Born knowing the darkness may get lighter but is meant to live in some men

The old have lived and seen and heard and had a chance to change
But the young with their dead eyes and no hope for tomorrows
Are forever lost but why must they forever live in this hopeless cage
No answers more questions we will see them life goes on as darkness grows

Why is there that one person who will never fit never one of us
Why the child always in the background but wanting to feel loving arms
Will they change the world to see that all are not created equal or just
Can we see with open hearts chase away all fears before complacency harms

==================================

You ask all of the right questions in this haunting poingant write M.E.
Why does it seem some are born under that cloud of loss and pain.
A cycle so hard to break unless a hand is held out in healing.
Ive been told understanding and forgiveness are the key.
touching poetry.

Thank you, Janet.  Mostly we are afraid to get close enough to give understanding. And forgivness is scarry because their lives are very close to ours.  Hugs

I remember someone repeating a famous quote, but don't remember who said it(?)
"Ours is not to question why, ours is but to do or die."
I feel silly posting this not knowing who wrote it, but the point is, I never believed it to be true. I always felt exactly the opposite, that ours IS to question why, or we might as well die.

Sven, I don't believe there are any answers only more questions.  Good to be back.

Seymour, thank you Sir Poet.

Midnitesun, I too ask questions and some times am afraid of the answers.  Thanks for the answer.

emily, thank you for the kind words.

Noah, if only we could all help with tears all the lonely children may find comfort.  Thanks and hugs
