If I Were a Poet If I were the moon, I’d embellish your eyes With jewels made in heaven, the stars from the skies I’d shine opal light on your fairness of face Caressing your hair with a moonlit embrace If I were a song I’d be hovering near With lyrical pleasures surrounding your ear I’d shadow your mind with melodic eclipse And the music would pour from your heavenly lips If I were in love, I would walk on the strand Gathering stars in the cup of my hand I’d string you a necklace from bright midnight skies To equal the splendor of jewels in your eyes If I were a poet, I’d gather the words That float from the dawn’s early warbling birds I’d douse them in succulence, bathe them in wine And lace them together in verses divine Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 12-10-2001).] |

"If I were a poet, I’d gather the words That float from the dawn’s early warbling birds I’d douse them in succulence, bathe them in wine And lace them together in verses divine" Echoing Sudhir ... you are, you are! This is splendid in both meter and rhyme as always, and the descriptive sentiments and imagery are just beautiful Liz ... a wonderful read! Best wishes, /Kit |

Yes, I agree... I haven't seen anapestic poetry of such quality in a very, very long time. Such a flow is something unique, it's something to be proud of. I think that the rhythm would have to be my favourite part of this poem. Other than that, I love the constancy of the way you began each stanza. What a great morsel of poetry... ~Allan "I know it's nice to be known - It caresses your ego - but the society cost is terrible." |

(smiles widely) And you do, sweet Elizabeth, for you embellish all our eyes and hearts with such heavenly sweetness of words and your lips sing like the warbling birds you inspire to create a symphony of divine verse. (kiss on cheek) You are such a loving, talented poet and friend to us all, and we all love you so very very much! Soooooooo gorgeous, sweet friend! (big hugggsssss) You have such a beautiful heat, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

I have to admit, I have read your work before, recommended highly by a friend. I have loved it all, my favorite of all of them being the one titled "Words Unspoken". I keep it in a file in my favorite papers. So, if you were a poet - you would be the first book on my shelf You are a poet genius. Your talent is really huge. I'm glad to know you are still posting here. ...and her crown was formed by the ice in her eyes |
