Music blares raucausly
in the broken down bar
where nightly excursions
offer limited dreams
of better times.

Men gaze hungrily
in the broken down bar
at women filled with nameless hopes
walking tightrope over constant lies
and their own starving hearts.

Women offer themelves boldly
in the broken down bar
to false passion with cold men
in hopes of experiencing the warmth
they seldom feel.

People drink endlessly
in the broken down bar
as eyes once bright
grow dimmer with each fading hour
as timelesness is passed.

During the unhappiest of Happy Hours
in the broken down bar
where logic and reason
fade to oblivion
they wait
as the glasses clink to an ancient tune
Though for what,
no one really knows.

Unfortunately it happens in any kind of bar. Great observation here.

that's deep sad thought. A  good remark on somewhere in the society. I heard some say most people are loners.

catalinamoon - a bottle, a drink, a broken down bar, and hearts looking for whatever? How true are your words in this writing...

I agree with you *catalinamoon* there are so many loss souls in Bars...looking for something to erase what they feel, or help them to feel again.

I think I have been in this place ...
there was a neon light blinking in the window,
with that insistant "buzzz" ...
empty laughter, stale pretzels, and
"creaky" floorboards.

A toast ...(raise glasses clinking)
to broken memories.

I had to read this, given the title.  I am part owner of a bar/restaurant.  Though, I spend very little time in the bar section.  Mostly for the reasons you've written.  And you nailed it...perfectly, Sandra.

Catalinamoon,

In the broken down bar
You've shown many broken down hearts.
Either no stranger there you are,
Or friends of yours often play these parts.

So real it . . .
you can feel it.

Thoughtful reponses, all. Thanks. Yes, I have spent many nights in similar places, but it was some time ago. I figured out that it never makes you beter in the end. But its an interesting way that much of the world lives, seeking something that just cannot be found.
Peace, all

This makes me think of Billy Joel's "Piano Man"...  How can one hope to find "the better things in life" in a place that's built upon the "worst" ones..?  If only they could bottle up true love and serve that to "all the lonely people"...

You've painted this scene quite vividly, Sandra.  I pray my life never becomes one of such despair that I'd become a regular in this broken down bar.  Be well, my friend.  Nice work! *hugs*

How well you captured the namelessness and hopelessness of despair.
Aren't you happy to be far past that
