Check-mate

A simple game from the start
a cross between war and art
teased by the step of a pawn
pieces of eight, here and gone

Played upon a strip of chance
where skill and craft make a stance
amongst shadows black and white
drawn to line by precious knight

Beyond castles field of reach
where silently bishops preach
taking guard from queens escape
for a kings demise, ... check-mate

*giggling* I do love the game of chess...you know it seems to me this world and it's controlling powers are much like people playing a game of chess with the outcome of each country determined by the moves made. *grin* love is much like this game as well. Very well done, Craig. I love it.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I like this poem a lot, but I never could play chess!

Okay. I like this, although I don't know why because I don't know anything about chess. I'd ask you to explain it to me, but we'd be here all night! LOL! Still it seems to be doen with power, and I think it should be read again. lol...maybe by someone who understands chess.

Your storm of assumption feeds anger I am calm enough to hold inside. Don't pretend to know me if you've never put stretched out your heart with since

Nice poem!  It captures very well something of the spirit of chess, including its mystery.
