He rode in on a quite horse
hiding eyes
and spurring sienna heat waves

Dismounting real
into the footprints
of hat and gloved hands
Leaving proof of life
within desert sands

Fulfilling long prayed await
of a lovely lass
hanging cotton
to dryer winds

Her eyes did not fail her
she dropped the basket
and ran
clothes pins flying
like grasshoppers

she saddled hard, the stranger
and giggled the fall
all the way to the ground
a perfect welcome home

The sun set just the way
she’d imagined

with silhouettes embraced
in window, lamp lit
white lace
billowing surrender
into night sky’s naked reward

Peeping Tom townsfolk
stood below, sighing anew

The stranger of her heart
had returned

Her summer song
had given way to lonely nights
she’d cried

The townsfolk anguished
in sadness
for a girl so devoted
to one man
hoping he would surely come
to claim her as his own

This night,
all that hung in higher notion
was the moon
and peeling wall paper

She’d counted each tiny blue flower
while he was away

She’d written down the number
Hiding it behind his picture
A sentiment of her devotion
and the kisses he now owed

he’d pay the note in full
with many tender midnights
crossing each blue flower lonely
off the wall of her heart

Each morning of glory
he’d erase the marks
while still, she slept
in peaceful streams of light

She should have painted the blue flowers red.

have mercy Regina....
what a very very cool write this is...
it seems redundant to even mention the oh so impressive imagery ...
and then lets talk about the slow burn written in with classy subtlety.
Id love to know where this inspire came from
I felt like I just watched a scene from a classic movie on the roamance channel
this is a definate "I wish I had wrote this" keeper

Its not like you to say sorry,
I was waitin on a different story.
This time I'm mistaken ...
for handing you a heart worth breaking.

Seymour: Alrighty then!!! LOL! I should have thought of that.   Hugs Sy!

Noah: I love the way you envision life! It warms my heart always!

Michael: Hey Friend! Devotion is so important. So happy you enjoyed this one. Many smiles!

Rosepetal: Happy holidays to you sweet Lady! I am so grateful for you. Your words are my enjoyment.

Janet: You are an angel of a poet's heart! You see deeply and get inside the verse and I'm always honored when you do. I can honestly say the inspiration for this one came out of the blue. But I do believe when love is in waiting...it's counts many things. Stars, moments, days etc. As far as the slow burn   So glad you caught that   You are a goddess of crescendo and
allusion! Gosh..I need to be left handed LOL!

LngJhnAg: Thank you!!! A good old fashioned love story lives in us all. I love happy endings! So glad you visited!

Balladeer: I'd love to see you play the male role! When she saddles the love of her life and you both fall down...bet you wouldn't even need a stunt double.   Just can't sue me for back pain...Sign here! Many thanks! Which word was that?

Sven: Hey! You are always a light of encouragement! Like a big pat on the back. I hug you for that!

Nancy: I'm so happy you liked that stanza. Course I might hurt someone by doing that..but it's a fantasy LOL! You're so good to me!

Karen: Your spirit is always so uplifting!!! And your heart is so big. Thank you Lady!

Tara: You honor me always. Thank you for connecting with this. {{hugs}}

Larry: Get ready for traction! LOL! You are so cool my poet friend! Gee Doc..I just welcomed him home..when will he get out of that body cast?

Kay: The greatest reward for me is when I make people happy and warm all over! You make it great to be a poet! Thanx dear Lady!

Andrea: I am thrilled! To convey has become so important in my life. Thank you for being there if even in spirit!

Sue: Then I have done something so right to keep you coming back. I hope to never disappoint you! {{Hugs}}

Sunshine: My gratitude to you always. As you play a major part in my continuance of that magic dear Lady.

Many hugs, smiles, and millions of thanks to you all. My heart is overwhelmed each day.

Sincerely,
Regina

Regina,
I like the way you think and write!  Really enjoyed this one (I pretty much like them all, actually).
"She'd counted each tiny blue flower
                         while he was away"

Now there is an imaginative and "expansive" line!
Well done!

Thank goodness this was brought back. It is a work of art, Regina. The vivid imagery made me feel the breezes flapping that laundry, and I laughed at those clothespin grasshoppers. And the 'peeping' townspeople were friendly and happy, not lurking nasty voyeurs.  Sure glad I didn't miss this poem!
