Himalayas

From out the womb of Mother Earth
A mountain range was given birth
And ever beckons man to climb
The peaks of wonder, path of time

Its grandeur etches in the eye
The yearn to touch the Asian sky
To reach the pinnacle of height
The hidden  peak of icy white

To rise above the heavenly cloud
Uncovering mysticism’s shroud
Embracing challenge, will and might
To conquer earth’s most wondrous sight

The greens of warmth, the whites of cold
The footsteps of the brave and bold
Imprinted in the blues and grays
The indigos beyond the haze

Where unexpected is the norm
And blazing sun no longer warm
The edge of life too high and steep
The precipice too dark and deep

And yet they climb for spirit’s sake
Unwavering in the risk at stake
For those who seek the most extreme
Are only following a dream

The thrill and peril, joy and awe
Still echo off a mountain wall
Though some have conquered, some have died
Some still have need to say they tried

*sigh* I love the mountains. I live by the Rockies and find they inspire me as I see them through mystical eyes. Very well done. I love the feel of this poem. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Absolutely outstanding, Elizabeth...
a beautiful portrayal of the Himalayas.
It makes me want to go there and climb to the top.

And what a similarity to life isn't it?

This said many things to me and all were profound.  A beautiful write as usual my dear friend.

No small wonder that this area yields gentle but strong people such as the Dalai Lama, and Shurpa guides and other adventurers who  climb "because it's there."
This is a wonderful poem, you do justice to the majesty of the Himalayas, and to the spirit of adventure. Thank you for lifting my spirits higher this morning.
