Mama always said
“If you feed it, it’s yours!”
What a license to rule the world!
It began when I was 5 years old.
I climbed the counters when she
wasn’t looking.
There, in the corner were the
sugar cubes!

I knew they would be waiting
for me outside.
Lined up from city blocks,
they would come,
one ant after the other.
I sprinkled it slowly at first,
taunting them,
teasing them, until they began
to devour their sweet
delight!
Why, they were shakin’ their
booties until many
fell over belly up into ecstasy!

But I didn’t stop there.
We had Planters peanuts!
Squirrels came from miles
around to sample
the feasts I would leave.
I named one “Cracklin’ Rosie”
cause she
sure knew how to handle the shells!

Then the birds and of course fish!

Suddenly we were overpopulated!

I had gone too far!

Oh, I outgrew my obsession
until one day
I believe I was about fifteen!

There he was.

Bobby Lee.  As fine a lookin’
boy you’d ever
want to see.  Dark wavy hair
and a smile that
would make a girl melt.

I knew what to do.  I didn’t
know much but I knew
what to do.

“Mama, I’m going to the grocery store….
we’re havin’ company for supper!”

LOL, that is very good! It's making me hungry now. what's for dinner?
If the way to 'his' heart is through the tummy, I'm in big trouble. Sure hope he can cook. For I'm only a fair cooker and I used to be a good looker 'till the melons started to drop a bit and the downy peaches-for-skin began to resemble the grapes of wrath.
LOL. Where am I going with this?
Fun poem, and it triggered a few thoughts.

This is a very interesting way to lure them
in....It might be wise to watch for trails
of sugar cubes...Neat poem...liked it.

Carol - what a wonderful story - I love the storyline development - and the final versus is absolutely perfect.  If this is a true story, that boy didn't stand a chance, did he?
