Empty heart
of circumstance
wallflower
at the dance
trying to
avoid each glance
and stop my toe
from tapping...

Turned away,
left unappraised,
a teardrop stain
on journal's page.
Closed the book,
my entry made:

"He never asked me..."

*repost from Open 10 due to a lack of muse...sigh*

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Karen, this is so so sad, my heart goes out to you! (sigh) Sometimes we must save the last dance, but in the end, you will find yourself walting into eternal happiness! (smiles) Your muses are always so beautiful, I love them all! (kiss on cheek) I love you, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

All too familiar,
But I am the one with out the courage to ask,
Especially when then the lady is lovely,

This is a lovely poem,
Brief and meaningful

I do remember those dances
I never mustered the nerve to ask anyone to dance

Yes, I know this feeling too. You expressed it just exactly as it was.

This is the story of my life..then and now. I shall never ask for fear of the word 'no'..and in never asking, I will never know that sometimes the answer may have been, could be, yes......

This is the case for many people at dances!
Fortunately, I am not shy, so if my crush didn't ask, I'd ask him. At one time I was shy but I realized that sometimes you can lose out if you are too shy. I bet the guy was waiting for you to ask him! Guys are just as afraid of rejection as girls are!
((big hugs)) Loved the way you've written this.

My grandma used to say that dancing was nothing more than the vertical application of a horizontal idea...she LOVED to dance!

I enjoyed this, Karen.  Short, but packed with feeling.  Nice work, my friend.

Thanks all, and this seems to be a rather common rite de passage for all...so much so that when my daughter begged off from a day of school to avoid one...I let her!!!

But now? GET UP AND DANCE!

Love and gratitude once again!
