The Little Ones

by Michael

They scatter treasures to the wind
These treasures, children, hurt the most
Because they're not willing to bend
So now their marriage, but a ghost

Their children's tears, no matter seem
How selfish, they ignore their pain
These little ones looked up to them
And now such sadness scars their brain

So many lives are torn apart
Such innocence is stolen then
Care not they for these little ones?
Do they not know their hearts won't mend?

So often it is selfishness
Or dreams they feel they will not find
Sometimes it is a stranger's kiss
And to their loved ones they are blind

You had your day, it's now their turn
These little ones with lists they write
To Santa, because they were good
These precious ones with eyes so bright

How dare you break their fragile hearts
When swallowed pride will sometimes do
Surprised I am that you can sleep
These tears they shed were caused by you

Such gifts our children are to us
The very best that life can give
It isn't right to break their trust
Let's give them secure lives to live

Embrace them with your tenderness
Assure them that you're here to stay
And fill their lives with happiness
Please work it out, don't run away

(note: this isn't meant to offend anyone.  So often, for one reason or another, it really isn't possible for a marriage to work out)

*sigh* I know from personal experience how hard it can be on little ones to grow up without a parent. Do they ever heal...I know not for I too came from a broken home and the cycle continued with me. Hopefully that cycle in now broken for the pain it put my now grown children through tore me apart. Thank you for posting this thought provoking poem. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Marriage is difficult, it constantly needs mending and children can be that glue for many couples. Great poem.

No offense taken Michael! and I am half in mourning for the lack of "Santa" in our home again this year.....(there's presents of course, but the kids are too cool for that now, or is it "tight"? I can't keep up anymore---but thanks for the reminder. Think I'll put up a tree anyway! Love and hugs!

Startime,
Yes, not only is it rough on the children, but the parents suffer much guilt and pain also.  Yes, let us hope the cycle is broken.  Thank you and (((hugs))) in return

Interloper,
Thank you and thank you for making time to read.

Tara,
Yes, they do, sweet friend.  Thank you and *hugs*

walker,
Well said!  Children can be the glue.  Thank you

Sandra,
Thank you for reading.  Yes, I worry about Savanna and the other two.  I do hope it all works out for the best, my friend. *hugs*

Karen,
Yes, Santa is not considered cool here either.  It takes such magic away from Christmas when children no longer believe.  Still, like you, I will put up a tree and decorate.  Take care, dear friend, and *hugs*

Everyone,
Thank you so much.  You're always so kind in your responses and many of you have become such wonderful friends.  I'm truly grateful.  Big hugs to you all and may God richly bless you.

Michael
