In the grim and bitter cold of the long, dark Yukon nights, The story is told of the tenderfoot who opened a mining site. He was spare of frame, and weak of mind, that feeble Balladeer, And how he came to be a prospector is now for you to hear. In the distant north on the Klondike, each miner must face a test, Or give up his stake and catch a sled that heads back to the west. And so it was our Balladeer stepped forward to make his mark, And pass whatever tasks were set for him in the land of eternal dark. He listened carefully to each word the bartender had to say, He knew he would pass every test (he's kind of dense that way). "You must do three things, young Balladeer, if you want to mine Way out here in the Klondike where the gold is pure and fine." "First, you drink this bottle of whiskey without stopping to take a breath, "Then you make love to a maiden fair until she needs a rest. "And then you find a grizzly bear and wrassle him to the ground, "Do all these things by tomorrow morning, or we'll run you out of town." Well, Balladeer has always considered his capacity to drink, the best, So he swilled down that bottle of Yukon Jack without a moment's rest. And then he staggered out of the saloon into the frozen evening air, So everybody turned back to drinking as they awaited young Balladeer. The night wore on for six long hours before Balladeer came through the door, His clothes were torn, his body mauled like it never had been scratched before. He staggered up to the bartender and said aloud that memorable night, "The bear is contented, so tell me, where's that maiden I'm supposed to fight?" heh - That Balladeer always misses the finer points of his tasks. |

Marge - Striking gold and Balladeer go hand in hand; you can't find gold without a GOLD DIGGER! As for three times on Sunday...lordy girl, can you really wrestle that long? Startime - Thank you from the bottom of my heart for not loving that Balladeer more than me. That means a lot, yanno. Yanno, ol' 'Deer is getting long in the tooth. You might want to throw in with me before it's too late. heh [This message has been edited by LngJhnAg (edited 12-04-2001).] |

'Deer - Well I'll be hornswoggled - Of all the jokes I had to pull out of thin air, it would have to be one you used eons ago. Well, the aim is still true - a scalawag was involved in the story. This is what I get for skipping past your poetry to read the really good stuff - lol. [This message has been edited by LngJhnAg (edited 12-04-2001).] |

Long John, this is so cool! I love it. Thanks for the laugh Andrea Summon the courage to step out of your familiar rut and suddenly many of those things which held you back will no longer have the power to do so. |

Keth - I sincerely hope that everybody notices, if they read your poem and 'Deer's, that I did not require either woman or bear to be killed. I am much more sensitive that way. *haughty sniffs* Thank you one and all for your most kind compliments. |

ROFL... You've shown your short memory as well as your poetic talent with this one, scalawag... but I gotta admit it's about time you picked on someone other than that sweet saint Toerag! LOL Great job, sailor... on both the poem and the "so there!" retort to Deer! *G* |
