A Twist of handle

Twist the handle of recollection
with just the fragrance from a summer night
then blow it like a candle,
it will move with your breath
to a million snapshots.

The tacky red vinyl of the soda shop’s seat,
his jeans faded at the knees
just below where you put your hand.

The ivory keys of the piano
with middle C stuck forever.

All those candy wrappers thrown
from the upper balcony of the theatre,
they float, still half way between up to down.

The ballet shoes tossed in the corner of the room
give off the odor of hard work.

The gardenia at the entrance of someplace today
can take you back to the dance
all fluffed and petticoated,
with a boy in a white dinner jacket
smelling of too much cologne.

Twist the handle of recollection
with just the fragrance from a summer night
then blow it like a candle,
it will move with your breath
to a million snapshots.

And with all that is amazing about time,
memory is real magic,
for in it you become teacher
and student at the same time.

(big hugggssssssss) Wow, I love it, sweet Martie, memories are priceless and we experience the beauty of them all as a student, only to share the magic of them as a teacher! (smiles) I love reading your thoughts, they're always so exciting to read! I love you, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Martie! Martie! Martie!  Didn't you see me sitting here reading this and smiling and nodding in remember?   I knew you saw me!
OH! How I wish I could write as you!
The words flow so beautifully and...oh, you make me remember things....you twisted the handle, and for that I thank you.
YOU are one talented lady!

Absolute truth, and you said it so poetically.

...and penny candy at the corner store - and balancing salt shakers on edge at the local diner - and phone numbers that began with a word rather than a number...

Simply wonderful twist, Martie...  You are awesome, m'lady...

Martie,  This is beautiful!

Reveries like this are so uplifting
Scent to scenes, shifting, sifting
memory's heavens gifting ,gifting
Hmmmm, I think my mind's a'drifting

Ahh, Martie, gentle one, I missed this, so I am glad to bring it back around, for it certainly is worth it. Love to drift into recollections, of course, remembering the best of them, the rest don't count...very gentle smile

I've been twisting the handle of recollection quite often lately... moving brings memories out of the woodwork. *S* This is wonderful, Martie... an absolute delight to read!
