For Ship and I

It’s numb I stand before the mast
The sails are shreds from tempest past
I’m pickled from the blast of brine
The sky is black I see no sign.

This storm I stood and yet not free
Has taken more than life from me.
It is a ghost that holds the wheel
A wheel that steers a broken keel

This ship still floats yet ready more
Battered broken with little store
It drifts in gray without a way
But still gives not its life away.

I am with it. It is with me.
We stand together fast this sea.
And will until the last is done
We will go down the two as one.

So all that vies and hears this cry
Let sigh a sigh for ship and I.

No compass needed ... simply follow the light
Like the Southern Cross and Ceres ... I'll guide you in the night.
Sailing waters of fate's infinity ... on a ship christened Serenity.
Of this cursed voyage you will be free...come now ...sail upon my sea.
