You Waited For Me

heat of summer has simmered away
to a murmur of leaves’ rustling
before the fall sets in to stay
the last rose waited for me

grass hewed deep in colors green
and squirrels are busy, bustling
still, before the fall gives sheen
the last rose waited for me

slow to loosen your petals red
holding back your fragrance deep
a perfect bud, in vase, by bed
the last rose waited for me

in the morn, your petals will bloom
to open full from night’s sleep
perfume will drift through the room
the last rose waited for me

This is wonderful....I do like roses, and one that seems to be especially for you is enchanting.

Karilea--there are many roses left for you, Sunshine, for you help to make them grow.

Karilea,

The year before last one last red rose also waited for me.  I brought it in before the first frost destroyed it and placed it in a vase on my writing desk.  Sure enough, upon rising the next morning there it was in full bloom with the lovely fragrance greeting me.  Loved this one a lot.    Thank you.

Sunshine this has deep meaning to me, yesterday Catholics celebrated St Therese, the little flower. Prayers are answered in forms of roses, flowers. Thanks for this one.

Very nice, my friend... I love seeing all the leaves painting themselves so beautifully - and finding an occasional determined remnant of summer hanging in for the frost - Lovely...

The roses waited for you, Sunshine,
But, alas for me, it's dandelions.
They waited for me in my flower bed,
Lurking there with lowly head.

Karilea - your poem is beautiful.

I agree with Honeybee
This belongs in my library
Saved so I may always see
This lovely poem, so heavenly

And the picture is worth saving too, maybe to paint someday when I get back into it.
Good job

...as as of yesterday, I truly did pick the last rose of summer.  It is probably the prettiest peace rose of the picks all year long.  Thank you all again for gracing this poem with so many replies...
