The Crazy Quilt The colors are still vibrant a crazy quilt passed along the line of years so boldly happy a just beginning of two rings joined now torn the fragile fabric living centuries past their last breath yet the velvet star is soft to my thumbs rubbing out time and the flowers delicate entwining tells of days under the light with eyes straining and finger's ache The magenta underbelly of her thought is as untouched as this memory that creeps me backward to the rocking chair and my legs dangling and her sweet la la la oh so tender then to feel so tucked I did not see her love for my mother all spread out and speaking of itself until now In the dew of little things, |

she quilted me a coverlet of soft down and silken thread she let me take the coverlet and cover up my head mother, mother, look at me I sang to her one day mother, mother, I am three! and in quilted bliss, I lay always, always, you inspire.... |

Oh Martie! This one hit home today and tears sprung to my eyes. As I read it I remembered my grandmother's quilt that she had made with her mother in a bomb shelter during the war, in England. It had one black velvet patch of a black cat....and...oh sorry...I really enjoyed your poem. Thank you!

Martie so beautifully penned, and as I looked at the quilt at the foot of my bed, it brought back similar memories. No matter how tattered they get, they get kept forever, and each stitch was hand-crafted with the love for someone, in your case, your Mom and now you. Martie, you never cease to amaze me with your beautiful thoughts and words, never. ~Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self~ Cyril Connolly |

I never had such a quilt. But if I had, I would still have it. A loving way to give a memory. |

The magenta underbelly of her thought is as untouched as this memory that creeps me backward to the rocking chair and my legs dangling and her sweet la la la oh so tender then to feel so tucked ++++++ You sent me spinning backwards into the lap of my grandmother, into the rocking chair, and I thank you so much for reminding me to think of her today. This is a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing your memories. |
