You were a strange one, drinking Acid Kool-Aid. But you took us 'Further' down the road than most other writers ever could. You were a Merry Prankster, but you weren't really cuckoo. And I'm just an obscure wanna-be who listened to you carefully when you said these words: "Famous isn't good for a writer. You don't observe well when you're being observed" (FYI, Ken Kesey passed away this morning in Oregon, peacefully in his sleep, at 3:45 AM, after liver cancer surgery. He was 66 years old) I'm gonna miss you, Ken Kesey. May your next journey be as interesting as your earthly stay was for me. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (edited 11-10-2001).] |

Sven, Kesey was one of those colorful characters in real life that was bigger than life itself. Glad you enjoyed this little tribute to his genius. |

A touching tribute Kacy. Sounds like he was a helluva person. And I'm sure his next journey will be a great one indeed If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

Tracey, have you ever read Kesey? He is well worth the time. The 60's and 70's would not have been the same without him. Lone Wolf, yes, he will be greatly missed. Thanks for reading. |

Midnitesun, It's never easy to let go of friends. But someday... Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either. larry c |

Hey Walt, thanks for taking time to read my goodbye for Ken Kesey. Larry, Kesey was a great writer. One Flew over The Cuckoo's Nest is still one of his most recognized works. Oh Sauni, are you OK? I was surprised to see you here tonight. Don't worry about me, Kesey was a very special influence in my life during the 60's and 70's, and his contribution to literature, as well as American culture is legend. I am fine, just saddened by the news that an icon is gone. Thanks for reading, and caring. And please, take good care of Sauni! She is just as important to me. |

faterider, thanks for reading this, and for asking about Kesey. One of his most well known works is 'One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest', which was made into a movie with Jack Nicholson in lead role. 'Furthur' was the the name of the psychedelically painted bus, which took Kesey and Jack Kerouac and others across the country in the early 60's, stopping along the way in many cities, where 'happenings' took place. This group of characters were called the Merry Pranksters in Tom Wolfe's book 'Electric KoolAid Acid Test.' |

I always felt like I was born too late...shoulda been a hippie. I became familiar with Kesey's work and craziness about 10 years ago. His was a unique mind and as you said, pretty much defined that time. You're quite the people poet, Kacy. It's very charming. |

Faterider, good for you! I personally think everyone should read Kesey's work. Hardly anyone seems to know he also wrote some childrens books. ![]() Corinne, thank you for stopping to say goodbye to Kesey. |
