The tinkling bell so welcome in summer now gets no response, yet it sounds unexpectedly through the heavy snow fall. It is a night when burning martyrs would want to wear union suits, and angels would prefer fur halos; the brightly colored pictures of ice cream adorning the truck's side fade into ghostly pallet prunings before disappearing into the snowy air. There is a hint of murdered music in the fading of the tinkling bell until finally there is silence. Yet for another hour the truck’s golden headlights burnish the churning white until fading into night. Night falls in white billows as a slow curtain across a bare stage; sleep snuffs gladness and sadness; whiteness swims; white billows drown out all light; night swims, snow falls. the title caught my attention and i just had to read this... a couple of excellent lines that i liked.."murdered music", "sleep snuffs gladness and sadness"..i was thrilled at the slow curtain analogy as well... thanx for sharing and belated welcome to passions! ![]() |
