And he laughed. "But I like to play with matches, too." I stood alone outside myself I saw the flame--- the heat of me flickering coaxing as a bonfire rages on a cold winter's night beckoning remembering how many had stepped up to warm their hands and feed the core with baggaged wood-- long dead from cold... how they loved the spark and fed the flame but always wisely safely back to the spot the zone of comfort from the intensity of the serenity of fire... that fire had desire to touch to grow be fed somehow held contained to have some purpose other than a dance with darkness... cracked and sparked a pine cone thrown in the midst of me-- (Did I really think that anyone would be so bold as to walk willingly embracing fire?) that many already had... the ones who had already been burnt... in the air as my light grew dim. and I replied: "I would rather be a match afire-- light the night for one instant-- bathe in the warmth and beauty-- letting it consume me-- than to stumble around forever passionless and blind." So I kissed him. And I think he understood. |

serenity- this is WOW...such a in depth poem of self exploration...i THINK i understand this poem...i read it several times, each time coming away with something new and a different meaning than the last. you have such a profound way of expressing yourself, that includes many layers! this hit me hard... "So I smiled at him and I replied: "I would rather be a match afire-- light the night for one instant-- bathe in the warmth and beauty-- letting it consume me-- than to stumble around forever passionless and blind." that is an amazing verse, and leaves me deep in thought. thank you for this. take care. amy ![]() "I could kiss you in |

"I never knew that fire had desire to touch to grow be fed somehow held contained to have some purpose other than a dance with darkness..." That one is my favorite..this was amazing all the way around, though. Sandra |
