I have been defeated
so many times before,
but I have picked myself up
from off of that cursed floor.

How many times can I lose
without finally giving in?
How often must I fall
before I finally win?

Thought things had started to change;
that I was indeed on the right track,
I just wanted to move ahead
without ever looking back.

Things are not always
the way that they might seem,
and life is not that simple;
it's not just a happy dream.

Now I carry the scars
born of defeats from the past.
With time, the wounds will heal
and only the scars will last.

Oh, I might face defeat
time and time again;
but I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been.

Donna, I couldn't add a thing. Yes, sometimes we need a gentle reminder of how strong we really are! Way to go!

Well written,
It is a tough lesson to learn,
to continue
but once learned it serves well,
keep getting up, keep on going
and keep on writing.

Lady of Shallot, I sure did today, as we all do some days.  *s*

Sunshine, indeed they are...thank you Karilea.

Gloom, yes to continue is a lesson we all learn, as hard as it might seem at time.  Thank you much.

May I echo what everyone else has posted?
The ability to pick yourself up each time you fall is a testament to your inner strength and resolve to be a winner in your life's story. And I really, really like what Balladeer said. 'Tis true.
