I remember it as the apricot summer: when the flowers and then the green fruits clung to the tall thin branches through all the strong spring winds and rains to ripen in the sunshine of a warm June and July. It was the only year I remember that frosts didn't catch the flowers, and the apricots actually got to ripen; and it was the same warm summer when my childhood began to come to a close. I thought of it then as childhood's end, but of course, it was only a beginning of my second childhood; I know now, with the hindsight of my 50-plus years, that childhoods never end until we die. But it was the end to one childhood, I suppose, an end to one sort of innocence, to be replaced by another. And though the apricots ripened, and didn't fall, we could never, ever - at the time - eat them all. Glenn, this is wonderful. I like it when poets can go back to a time, and bring it forth, fresh and clean... Thank you! |

Oh my, I can certainly relate to this. My Grandmother's apricot jam was one of the sweetest memories of my childhood. Now I buy the best off the shelf wanting for a taste of my innocence. But like you said, hingsight being 20/20.....I'm still a kid at heart and I ain't dead yet!! ![]() Thanks for this. |

*sigh* such a beautiful memory. It does not matter our age (and who told you 50 plus was old anyway?)for it is how we live life in our hearts that counts. May our memories forever keep us young at heart. ![]() Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

Thanks for the tasty apricot memories. It's true, we never stop the adventures of childhood. Once we do, we're done for good. An enjoyable write, Glenn. |
