I have to take the ferry to get to the other side
It was a rainy day so there was not much light
At right the Westerschelde at left the big Northsea
In between two shores I took this pic for thee

Five hours later in Drenthe I took this lovely pic
of a restored windmill that gave me quite a kick
We have lots of them and so many still in use
You cannot deny it's an inspiration for the muse

And yes a sunset too in stillness so serene
not colorful yet beautiful as I have hardly seen
The forests in the distance harbouring the deer
land of ancient tales told by men drinking beer

Flat land pastures green and clouds up above
at right a boat is sailing this is the land I love
This is so typical Dutch I need to share with you
I'm sure when you were here you would love it too

There were two of them one on the other side
watching cars go by and it just seemed right
This is the land of sheep alive or carved in stone
they put the two together so he won't feel alone

Here is the famous "heather" overgrown with grass
this is what the sheep are for to eat this grassy mess
Then a few years later it's heather that you will see
displaying all it's beauty for people like you and me

Purple during the summer and brown in wintertime
this is typical heathenland described in many rhyme
Wandering with his sheep the herder and his flock
over outstretched land assisted by his working dog

This is what I had to do I inspect every single beast
to see if it fits the profile a whole days work at least
And this is not the only herd we did these days a few
sevenhundred miles I drove to give you any clue

Roofs of straw small windows keeping in the heat
living off the land and sheep it all seems very neat
Don't be mistaken though their life was a living hell
if they had some food tomorrow they could never tell

And with this lovely sunset I'll say goodbye to you
showed you little of my country hope you loved it too
After sevenhundred miles I'm glad I'm home again
but if I take another trip I will give you notice when

A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess...

Titia, I really enjoyed this!  It reminded me so much of Denmark with the thatched roofs on the houses and the rolling countryside.  I took a ferry from Denmark to Germany, much like the one shown in your picture.  Oh, now I want to go back and visit your country.
Thank you for this one, Nancy.

Titia, it is almost midnight here, and yours was the last of a few I had time to read tonight, and guess what, I think I will dream of sheep!  I am so enjoying your wonderful pictorial poems and the life you live is certainly one that I envy so much.  I thank you so much for sharing your world with us, you are a very, very wonderful lady.

Tracey, glad you liked it, thanks.

WayoutWalt, keep on riding with me and I'll show you the whole country.

Kathleen, yes I was away for 5 days, glad to be home though

Balladeer, you're so sweet

Marge, I knew you would like this one, there are many more to come in the future

Enchantress, Denmark does look a bit like the Netherlands, I can imagine it looks familiar to you.

Mysteria, I'm so glad you enjoyed and dreaming of sheep I hope you did get your sleep

Duncan, see below, specially for you, our guesthouse being build. Thanks sweet pal
