Time Stained Warp

Across the wood
time plays out its scratched history
hidden and remarkable
in a secret drawer
where a piece of paper
covered with intricate writing
whispers to me and plays my mind
in swirls of interlaced geometry.

My hand must reach out
pulled by some ancient memory
sanded by time to caress
linger and feel home
ingrained so invincible but fragile
living across the years
that wrote a thought with ink
dipped with scratching flourish.

I can see the graceful flow fade
and the crisp fold
then a sigh
pushing the chair back with closed eyes
thumb and forefinger find
that place between the eyes
where supplies of deep thought slumber
and to post a letter is an intricate thing
across the valley of hoof-beats.

My fingers soak in this time-stained warp
from some other life that has caught me
and given me such thoughtful consideration
that I know how big encompassing can be
before I even read the words.

Ah, look at you...plucking on heart strings heard across the voids....

the clever one, indeed....

well done, our Martie...

I could read this one over and over and enjoy it's thoughtfulness each time.
