She Lived In Yesterday Softly spoken, softly felt Harsh the life she was dealt Knew her little, knew her smile Should have stopped, talked awhile. Now she’s gone, no stories to tell Didn’t know her all that well. Left to me to appraise her home Felt it could be done, all alone. Oiled door swung open so wide Rooms were sunlit dim inside But stacked high along all walls Mementos stacked, threatened to fall. Though someone’s trash it could be Laid before me treasures to see Special to her, this I knew true, To her life each piece held clues. Clearly she adored finesse, refine Crystal stemmed glasses once held wine Under chandeliered ceiling high Exquisite rainbows caught the eye. Fine artifacts adorned all rooms Through her house, there was no gloom But even in the silent air One could feel a heavy despair. There, then, was the packet I found Letters and books of poetry bound Silken ribbon roped them fine I loosed them free, to read her lines. Three half-decades of time ‘tween we Oh my soul’s mate, set me free I cannot adore anyone but thee In shadows of time, our love shall be Enchanted, I, for how could I not Leave off reading of lost love sought These next lines truly caused pain I read them over again and again… At thy grave I sit and weep Sore is my heart, price too steep To know my love shall be no more My heart has died, a silent core If I must live, lost and alone Each breath shall be burdened stone Only in your grace shall I walk on But love again? Nay, that is gone. She lived a chasm of void so deep Imagine her despair, hear her weep To know of only one true, sure love And for its loss, to only dream of Gently spoken, so softly felt Hard this life that she was dealt Knew her little, knew her smile Should have stopped and talked awhile. 23 August 2000 ©Karilea Rilling Jungel revised 31 October 2001 |

Is it Karilea? I almost named a character in my Dragon Slayer series "Karelia" ... both are beautiful names.... Ok...nuff of that.... I want to express the feelings that I felt during this poem. It is magnificent. I felt the sadness, the love, the tenderness of her, of them both. How many of us have written love lost poems....I did the same with my Hermit poem....he lost his wife... Very touching....I enjoyed this immensely. |

Magnus, it is most certainly Karilea. Thank you. On doing a search of my "non-existant, made up name" I've come across a few others who have it. But there aren't many of us. On the spelling as you have it, have you ever researched it? I have. Go here... http://www.gov.karelia.ru/ and I am sure you will find that quite interesting... as for the poem, this likes me a lot, too, hence, the rewrite and repost. Thank you for your generous comments... Nancy...thank you for reading...I am so glad you liked it... |

You weave despair very well throughout this wonderful story. Unfortunately, we're all guilty of not stopping and talking awhile. Michael Auguste~ |

It is sad when we discover after they are long gone, that we might have enjoyed spending a moment chatting with someone like your 'yesterday' lady. This reminds me so much of someone I once knew. Thanks for telling her story so gently. |

How tenderly sad, and so poignant. It loves me! And yes they will love it too! ![]() ~*~ Carpe' Diem ~*~ |

Wondering... how could this be? Reading her... yet seeing me. Sometimes one love is the last Days are long but years go fast My things someone will go through... Will they regret they never knew? Sunshiney one... this is so beautiful! Perhaps my inadequate words show how much I was touched... Simply superb!! |
