The cake rose up majestically In four thickly frosted tiers. A thicket of lit candles Represented all his years. Alas, there were too many years, As soon the guests all knew. He coughed and wheezed and fell face down Into the candles, when he blew. His missus raised his hoary head, Smudged with icing from the cake. "I won't let you spoil," she said "What took three hours to bake." So they laid him out upon a bed; His missus cut and served the cake. The guests agreed it was the best They'd ever tasted at a wake. |
