You can't bottle the wind. |

A leather bag holds all I own and there's a gassed up car waitin' by the road. Pretty soon now, baby, I'll be gone. It's nothing you did or haven't done, but something inside says it's time to run. Sorry if you thought that I could be the one. I never meant to let it go this far, but one kiss from you and, darling, here we are. We both knew that it wasn't meant to be. The lilacs are gone and the north wind blows. A sure sign to me that it's time to go. I'm on the first road that takes me out of Tennessee. Then I'll drive... until I reach Decatur. Maybe I'll stay... right on through the winter. At the first sign of sunshine, I'll be Mississippi bound. Maybe Louisiana has something there for me. But truth be told there's no tellin' exactly where I'll be. Don't you fret, my darlin', I promise I'll be around. You can't catch a rainbow. You can't bottle the wind. You can sometimes play with fire but you can never call it 'friend'. You can't hold a restless spirit but you can think of me now and then. |

Reminds me of a tune my dad used to sing "And the wayward wind, is a restless wind, a restless wind, that yearns to wander..." I think I heard KD Lang sing it a few years ago, though it may have been someone else. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (edited 09-24-2001).] |

Interesting that you mention a restless spirit...I have written a similar poem and will be posting it soon in mention of a "searching soul." Seems to be lots of this going around lately...hope you find what you're looking for. Remember you can't spit into the wind...James |

Tenessee I love it when a poem has a heckuva ending that ties it all together. This definately had a good feel to it, you stayed away from the sappy sentimentalism that I was dreading in the end. Kinda makes me want to sing... "On the Road Again..." :::warbling horribly off key:::::::: Good Job! |

YES! I LOVE THIS! It could be a song even! This sort of fits a mood of mine lately. Wishing I could just roam for a while. Sometimes the heart needs the solace of solitude and silence. |

Wonderful. I'm going through the same thing at the moment. This positively sings to me too. If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |
