Down Through History

Down through history I seek
looking for the noblest one
that I may sing its praises
of respect that it has won

There was Egypt once who ruled
across the known world they spread
building Pyramids to their Pharaohs
before their armies all fled

Ancient Greece has caught my eye
giving art that never died,
and the gift of deeper thought,
in these things there should be pride

Rome stood the greatest of them
conquered the world with legions,
destroyed by her corruption,
absorbing all the regions

These were great ancient countries
who left their mark down through time
teaching lessons dearly learned
that above it we can climb

England was even greater still
across oceans sent her fleet
as her arm reached far and wide
many nations did defeat

From darkness a country rose
as God now reached out His hand
to create unlike the rest
a different promise land

Total freedom was her aim
so the men took up their arms
and fought such a valiant war
winning rights from all that harms

The Greatest Nation arose
becoming brother to all
standing boldly for freedom
forever sounding its great call

Standing in different light
not to conquer is her quest
but to fight for peace and rights
this America does best

Study down through History,
you will understand my love
for a country still guided
by the Hand of God above

And I love it because right or wrong it is my country...and its full of brave and compassionate people...and as I read the other day...without the brave there would be no land of the free.   James

Well written, Karen, but what if the history we have studied/been taught is not quite as accurate as we would think it to be...?

Seymour....thank you, so much. I am glad you liked it.

James....*sigh* I have a deep love of your country too...that is why I was inspired to write this. No country is perfect in this world of ours but the United States stands up for freedom in every way that it can.

Mark....I know that much of what we learn may not be all the truth but today at least we have the chance to look for truth ourselves and make up our own minds. We cannot be as control or directed as easily as we once were but it still happens by the few men of this world who would shape it and us into their vision...much of history has been controlled by such men as now play this game of life with us. Thank you for your comment.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Startime,

The people who say that the tighter airport security and all the other little things that have been done or will be done just confuse me. Don't they understand that in order for us to remain a free country and a safe country that it is in their best interest to allow a little hassle on their parts. I know I'd rather stand at the airport for an extra hour while they do extra checks on baggage and stuff, then not to and risk losing my life.

Just my 2 cents.

Dawn....I have to say I totally agree with your two cents.....after all a life is priceless, is it not and waiting for a little longer is a small price to pay.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.
