Come Follow Me

“Come follow me,” He said with an evil smile
From the shadows he could hear him call
“Come follow me,” He said to the child
I can make you feel ten feet tall

Inside the child, a small voice was heard
Stay away from strangers, run away
Again, came the cunning words
“Come follow me, together we will play”

The voice within, now louder, said
“Run, get away fast”
The smile filled him with a sense of dread
Run away before the time is past

His feet swiftly carried him back to his home
Hurriedly he ran through the door
He’d discovered, “Twas best not to roam”
At an early age he was learning the score

In the shadows the evil smile died
Frustration was upon the man's face
Until another child came, he would hide
One would come along and he’d give chase

Instruct your children; take the time
Let them know how much you care
Even well dressed suits can be slime
Teach your children to be aware

EXCELLENT!

Wanda, this is full of the greatest advise, and especially at this time of year, with Halloween approaching.  I really want to thank you for writing and posting this one, so parents know to warn their children about "anyone", as what appears to be the nicest person could be slime like you said.  Great job on this.

Mysteria; Thank you for your reply to this poem.  Hopefully, parents will go with their children on Trick or Treat night.  They mostly do that here.  I think that is a wonderful idea.  Wanda

Karen; Thank you for your thoughts on this poem.  It is vitally important we do teach the children.  How it grieves my heart, we have to teach children these things, but we are living in a time when it is pertinent to do so.  We have to see it as another way to help protect them from the dangers lurking  out there.  Wanda

Wanda,

I too applaud you on a message well sent. This is sooo important in this day and age, to teach children to not talk to strangers. Unfortunately it seems that as the world has become a more dangerous place for our children to live some parents have also gotten a lot more lax in teaching their children how to be safe. I can't tell you the number of children that don't know me that have spoken to me over the years.

Dawn; Many children are so trusting of people.  I also know parents who hate to teach the children these things because they do not want their children to live in fear. When I go to malls and see children running around by themselves; it frightens me for their sakes.  I remember growing up in a time and neighborhood where we did not bother to lock our doors at night.  How many people do that today??? Thank you for your comments.  Wanda

Even great leaders of the world can wear the
same smile.  It takes no quarter and gives no
mercy.  Children should always be taught that
bad people look just like us all.  trust no
person that you do not know.  And those you do trust,  know about good and bad touches.
Know who you can always tell if you have a
bad touch......And no secrets.....

this poem touches me a lot.  I don't like
thinking that could happen to one of my
children.  But I do know it could,  and they
have been taught as best as I can teach them
about touches, secrets, etc....

Thanks again Wanda...

Magnus; I applaud you for what you have taught your children.  They need to know these things.  It's sad they need to know, but it's only wise, and for their protection to know.  A child is still vulnerable; these creeps know that, but a well informed child can be on the alert for these things.  It is the best protection we can give them while we are not with them. Thank you for the comments you have shared.  Wanda
