In chestnut, bay, buckskin or gray
Sweet little Caspians come out to play,
with silky mane and flowing tail,
courageous and friendly, with great agility,
they move like the deer,
a Lydian fantasy,
miniature Arabian knights
princes and princesses
roaming so freely under
Persian skies, part of antiquity...
these Royal Caspians,
who pulled the chariots of Darius the Great, 600 BC.
Long before you, long before me.

Thank you Texana Farms, Houston TX
(www. caspianhorse.com)
for the inspiration,
and thank you Prince Phillip,
for helping to save this magnificent miniature horse
from obscurity, and perhaps from extinction.

And thank you sweet daughter Sara, for teaching me all I know about equines.

Midnitesun,
So who do you thank for knowing all that history (if they were before your time), huh?
Good job!

Hey, thanks bro. I just learned about these guys tonight, thanks to sweet Sara, who grumbles at regular "History" studies, but spends hours studying everything she can about horses, breeds, training methods, history etc. This way, she inadvertently learns more about about "History" than she would care to admit.

Thanks for reading, Dawn. If you have time, check out that caspian link, though I didn't input it correctly to just "Click N Surf"

I am sure by now that you know I truly enjoy reading poetry on matters that have been researched, so this was a treat for me to find this morning!  Thank you, and your daughter Sara, for allowing this poem to come through.

Sunshine, thanks for visiting this poem. I love researchin gnew topics, it keeps me alive and in tune with more of the world. Sara is hooked on research, too...especially if it has something to do with a horse, dog, or goat.

Seymour, glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed writing it.

Startime, good for You and Erin! Sara found several breeders of Caspians in Texas, and a couple other states. Fascinating little horse, perfect for pony carts. Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed and now have more reading to do
