The Shores of Alone

She once had hair of ravens' kiss
and eyes of softest chocolate brown
she had such breasts to make men weep
and wore her beauty like a crown.

As time passed by in rush of fools
she noticed changes gradually
a little here, a little there
it seemed to happen naturally.

One day while dressing, she in shock
saw something heretofore unknown
her face no longer smiled at her
it sat in wrinkles of its own.

Her body seemed deflated now
not in quite the right location
things moved and grew and shrank in turn
Aghast, she stared in frustration.

Hair still shiny, streaked in white
eyes, red rimmed from years of crying
seems her glory now has left her
her "self" gone, she feels like dying.

She has to sit and ponder some
this new "other" she inhabits
and slowly dawns a new resolve
she is more than beauty, dammit!

Her soul is still as full of love
her heart yet has no boundaries
so do please look at her with depth
there's so much left of her to see.

Wonderful inspiration, and indeed a glorious write!!

On the wings of words our spirits fly....and our souls are free.

beauty is diverse
true internal beauty shows
aura of woman

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Sandra, this is so soft and compassionate! (sad sigh) True beauty is always on the inside, and she's only grown to be even more loving and beautiful! (sigh) My heart cries out to her sorrow, but also in delight to feel the love of this special woman! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) Muah! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sandra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

catalinamoon, I am so happy that you were inspired by regina's poem. I was too, yet my muse has been tired of late. This is wonderful  - as always. Chris

Yes, there's so much more to see.  As corny as it sounds, a body is just a body, but true beauty always lies within.  The trick is to not let that beauty ever be wrinkled by age.  Great write, my friend.

Beautiful in such a heavy-hearted way...  I could FEEL the leaden weight imbued in this poem... and behind it.  It's always so easy to remark about something;  so much harder to live the concepts...  Anyone with an iota of sensitivity, I believe, will be able to relate to the message here.  A few, even, may be up to the challenge of being a little less "superficial"...  Although it absolutely seems so, it never truly is too late to start anew -- it starts with the desire, intent, and decision.  Then it's all in the actions which at times can be in the face of what the world/universe would lead us to believe...  This poem especially moved me, Sandra.

The person who coined the phrase that beauty
is only skin deep was wrong....Beauty lies
within,  deep within.  Comes out when it
feels appreciated for what He/She is.  Lies
dormant until that time or....IF the
beauty is felt at other times....comes to the
surface,  shimmering....for all, including
the other person...to enjoy forever.

I have always said that behind the eyes of
an older person lies the mind of a young
person,  wanting desperately to be seen
as such.  I believe that is true IF we are
not happy with our "other person" look.

Beautiful write Sandra.  Very much so.
And your picture shows a lot of beauty to
match your beautiful words.

Yes! You certainly are! Smart, sweet, sensitive, mysterious, giant hearted, and many....many more things than we ever were when we were young, supple, and selfish...and very naive. We are women that have our own sense of what we want! We are special in our secret ingredients. Our garden grows exotic blooms that our youth never heard of. There are some things I'd never trade for the lack of experience!
You are wonderful!

Sincerely,
Regina

and yes, the depths, the true beauty, no one need ask for anything more than to look beyond the flesh...I love this, absolutely love it!
