If you go to my first reply the link seems to work there....???

                    Jessie's Day

Jessie lives near the clouds and she dreams through the days,
oh she dreams about her sailor his duty far away.
And the days they run long in the cool mountain air
and the last words he spoke echo back to her there.

                    Chorus:
                    "Jessie wait for the day
                    I'll be comin back home
                    and your mother's a tailor
she can sew you a gown.
When that final ship sails in
                    to the valley bay again
there'll be singin on the mountain
wedding bells will join us then."

There's a picture on the wall of her smilin sailor boy
and his smile is a promise of tommorrows lovin joy
and her waiting arms unfold a flowing gown held dear
and she stares down the mountain through her lonely tears.

                    "Jessie wait for the day
                    I'll be comin back home
                    and your mother's a tailor
she can sew you a gown.
When that final ship sails in
                    to the valley bay again
there'll be singin on the mountain
wedding bells will join us then."

Well wars they come a ragin to curse a sailor's world
and a missing lover's promise lives in a mountain girl
and on a quiet valley evenin when the whisper breezes play
you can still hear an echo off the cliffs of Jessie's bay.

                    "Jessie wait for the day
                    I'll be comin back home
                    and your mother's a tailor
she can sew you a gown.
When that final ship sails in
                    to the valley bay again
there'll be singin on the mountain
wedding bells will join us then."

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie

This has all of the flavor of being a Keeper, and keep it, I shall!  Even without the music, the tune will stay in my head!  Thank you for this, Ethome....it's a great read....

I must have listened to this ten times, Eric. It is my new favorite folk song. Awesome. And that guitar playing...absolutely superb. What a dynamite voice! So I'm listening to it again as I write this reply. And I will email Jaime F., so that he will not miss this poem, and hope that somehow he can hear part of this wonderful tune. Thank you for making my day.

Thanks to all!

I wrote the words and John Ford wrote the music and did the singing.

Eric--I love the way you play the heartstrings...and I hear the sound, even without being able to play the music.  Wonderful!

Eric - I will sing this fine tune whenever I'm on the bounding main.  Methinks the sailor's name would sound good in this poem.  Lemme give it a try... heh

Nice work, Eric
