Things I Have Learned

It’s incredible as the years go by
The things you can learn if you really try
One of the first things I learned
The rules parents set, I was not to spurn

There was another lesson quickly taught
We got into trouble whenever we fought
You don’t pull your sisters’ hair
And your clothes you learn to share

Ride a bicyle anywhere but on a gravel road
Be kind to animals, don’t squash a toad
Always tell your parents where you’re going
Be prepared to answer, “Why’s that water flowing?”

Never complain when work is to be done
If your attitude is right, it can even be fun
Don’t bury the cat in a pile of sand
Cats are made to live above the land

Hold Sis’s hand in going to the outhouse at night
If you don’t, you’ll probably die of fright
Those branches that brush the roof outside
Only sound scary when it’s eventide

Taking a bath outside in a big round tub
Jump in first for a cleaner scrub
Living in the country is not for the faint of heart
But, it’s a great place for a child to get a start

If you wave your magic, wanda, do those scary branches go away? LOL, I enjoyed this very much.

Midnitesun; The magic only worked during the daylight hours.  Whenever it was dark, it was scary. :-) Glad you enjoyed the poem.  Wanda

Way Out,  I like your wild "way out" looking little cat.  Since I am a cat lover, that little character jumped right out at me. :-)   Thank you for your encouragement. Wanda
