Before Our Time
By Larry Chadwick

We came along before our time,
It seemed so terribly unfair.
A friend I wanted her to be,
But it was too early to share.

And so the only time we got,
Was talking on the phone.
Those calls were made quite often,
I just couldn’t leave her alone.

As time was passing by,
Those feelings started to grow.
But a little thing inside of me,
Said I couldn’t let her know.

A solution had to be found,
To this longing in my heart.
They wouldn’t stay inside,
Without tearing me apart.

So one at a time they were bought,
Of course, at the Hallmark store.
A way for me to be able to say,
How much this girl I did adore.

Into the shoe box under my bed,
They gathered as time went by.
A way for me to let it out,
Or else my heart would cry.

Dated and numbered one by one,
The cards were accumulating so.
A little stack of how I felt,
Because I couldn’t let her know.

Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either.  larry c

Well Larry, if you kept the cards under the bed instead of giving them to her, then how the hell was she ever gonna know how you felt???? How often though, have we not told someone how we felt and kicked ourselves later (pick me, pick me, yeah I've done that, more times than I care to remember. lol)

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Tracey,
Okay, smarty pants! It was about ethics. I found her on her way to being single and refused to be the cause. Sooooo...I waited.

Coco,
I don't believe we've met. I pleased, always, to provide hugs! Thanks.

LOL. No one can catch me anymore...I've gotten smarter, hence the smarty pants. And that goose and gander both hit gramma's oven many years ago.

*sigh* How sad that those wonderful cards stayed in the shoebox when they might have lightened both your heart and hers. Well done, Larry. A great read.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Hey Larry, give her the cards. She'll love them. Let her know how you feel.

Larry,
This is wonderful! Isn't it funny how we seem to close ourselves off to something that we want so bad? This really touched me!
Thanks for sharing!
Love ya

SEA,
From a woman whose poetry I adore...Thanks!   It requires a sequel, you know.

Startime,
Guess you figured out, it wasn't easy! But I was willing to meet the challenge.   p.s. See note to SEA.

SmartChick,
Good advice! Stay tuned.

Cindi,
Thanks so much. You're the best.
