Hindsight

When we met, I was but a youth
I was seeking love, I was seeking truth
I had been deeply hurt, and lived in pain
I was young, confused, and very vain

What I wanted, I didn’t know
What I needed, was time to grow
You offered me a stable life,
That’s why I became your wife

I had time to grow, with you by my side
I gained a sense of self-worth
I learned to love myself is more than pride
You have given me more than you’ll ever know

My needs are different now
I need romance, I need joy
I need to sing and dance
I need a spiritual love
to share my heart

With someone who loves me
And God above
A bonding of mind, body, and soul
To feel the ache when we’re apart

What we’ve had together will never end
Two beautiful children
A lifetime of caring and sharing
You’re a wonderful person
I will always call friend

I can see clearly how
Our love has changed
The way it was, I can not live
I’m different now
It isn’t fair of me
To expect from you
What you can not give

What I need, you may never understand
I feel sad because you are a good man
But I need to let you go
I know it hurts to hear the truth
But out of pain comes strength
It’s your turn to grow

I will always love you.

Listening to every heart

Sometimes it is just like that, and patience requires we wait for the other to grow.  And sometimes, not.  Only you will know! A good read! Welcome to Passions!  Please check your e-mail for a special greeting!

Welcome to passions!
Wow, this is wonderful! If I didn't know better I would think you were speaking for me in a different time of my life! If this is about you I am sorry, but I know how you feel!  Thanks for sharing!

Cindy,

Thank you. Yes it's about me, I wrote the poem to my husband of 20 years whom I plan to divorce soon.

BtwnRockandHardPlace,

This is a great poem. Reminded me of my parents who were married 25 years before they divorced. *hugs* A great big welcome to Passions!!!  Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome to Passions! I read your poem filled with so much pain, and then I veiwed your homepage.  As I have been in your shoes, so I know they hurt and pinch at this time. I hope you stay here and try to write a bit about your feelings, it helps. Women "need" to feel like women, and I can sure relate to your poem.  Your children are adorable by the way, and bless you for adopting. Benita,

Try giving your smile to someone who doesn't have one, and I bet someone will come along and give you another.

How sad. But only you can know the why or how it came to be that this love somehow didn't grow with you, but away from you.
Strange, but I never made it that far in any relationship, so I cannot begin to fathom the depth of daily bonding that is being severed here. But it doesn't sound like a bitter ending, and that is a positive.

Anyway, welcome to this site, where it's OK to be between those rough spots.

So many of us have been down similar roads.
I wish for you that both of you can grow from
this experience in your lives and that you
can remain friends...I can feel your heart
aching in this expression of love and much
more.
