Footprints The night is gone, but evening haze Has laid a coat of icy glaze Upon each blade, upon each dream In twists of life’s uncertain maze The path to our enchanting place were footsteps marked in icy lace soft imprints frozen crystal clear that now can never be retraced The memories that I hold so dear cannot retrieve a fallen tear nor capture moments, time or space that fill my thoughts from year to year In fantasies within the eye of love that somehow passed me by I see a portrait of your face that haunts me through the morning haze The twisting maze, the icy glaze in crystal stars adorn the sky but disappear in winter frost The footprint lost, I know not why Elizabeth santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 10-23-2001).] |

*sigh* and crystal tears are what you shed when memories bring dreams into your head. *sigh* how sad this poem is. Its beauty cannot help but touch the heart of the reader. Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

"Memories are but moments frozen in time, for our hearts to remember and to find when, how and why they remain this way upon our mind." I find myself retracing my footprints all the time, and find myself lost from so many paths crossed, entwined. Good job ... like this much!! |

Elizabeth, The exquisite of this worded web Has caught about this lonely head. And I am drawn within its stars To pluck some daises that were ours. I keep you in my heart asleep And only wake you when I weep. Love Sy |

Elizabeth - I found this a bittersweet one, as always any memory, sad or sweet eventually brings a smile to me anyway. I felt the sadness in not knowing where this memory belonged in this poem. Why would one want to retrace their steps when there is so much in front of them? I always think I am grateful for what was, and wonder what wonders are next for me? As you can see, this made me think and ramble on but that is what your poetry does for me, I just never do it on here ![]() Try giving your smile to someone who doesn't have one, and I bet someone will come along and give you another. |

THank you for your very kind comments. The point of this poem is that you can't go back to the past. The footprints have disappeared. My rhyming scheme is a little wacky - just experimenting with sound. I appreciate all of your remarks Thanks Liz |

The "visible" footprints may be gone but as long as you hold the path within your memory, then there is always a chance of finding your way home again. Wonderful expression of an intrigal part of our lives and of course when one is penned by you, the flow is always a treat. Beautifully written and expressed and a true joy to read. |
