Silence, eerie quiet smothering the earth.
White thumbs sticking out of the ground in rows.
Souls once alive, now departed, some forgotten.
Thousands joining by the year as time whittles away.
Pictures forgotten, lying in boxes in more boxes.
Scenes of lovers embracing before goodbye.
Line, line after line of lovers teary eyed, sad.
So many left, so many never came back.

Scenes of tragedy, loss, suffering, genocide.
Sad faces staring into darkness.  Forgotten
fuel for the fires of ones thought perfect.  Condemned.
Trains towing cars of souls on a journey of lies.
The terror and suffering felt by young and old.

A split second in time taking thousands to dust.
Scarred buildings with silhouettes of life engraved.
Sickness from things left behind, silent, invisible killer.
Einstein was proud to make E=MC2.   So fitting.
Enola Gay a shrine for victory, reminder of man’s cautions.

A war that will and should never be forgotten.
Countless families lives changed in just moments of time.
So many mothers robbed of son’s.
So many families lives stolen, burned or blown up.

Pray that we never ever have to have war again.

Dedicated by a Veteran of the Cold War, USN (25 years)
Dedicated to my father...  WWII Vet....part of the greatest generation.

I wrote this before 9/11/01....

Magnus; I was tremendously touched by this poem.  I agree, we should never forget what so many have sacrificed for us to have freedom in this country. Our freedom is being challenged once again and we need to lift our leaders and our country's finest to the Lord and pray for wisdom and courage for all.  Thank you for writing this.  It is spoken from the heart of one who truly knows the cost of freedom.  Wanda
