Falling in love with you
Was not what I expected
You came when I could not have been
Less enthusiastic
I groaned in disbelief rather than leap for joy

Looking into your eyes, I wondered
What am I to do with this? These feelings?
This....emotion? What is taking shape here?
I feel so.......well, nothing at first.
And it should be something, and ohmigoodness.

This was nothing like I had ever experienced
There was fear and dread and loathing of myself
Never of you: that was more like an apathetic blur
Going through the motions, getting up and down
Doing this doing that whatever it took and then

Like the dew lightly covers the morning grass
It softly descends in the last moments of the night
And only as the rays of the sun begin to shine
Is its presence noticed. Faintly, a hint. A whisper.
Until I step into its cold wet fragrance. Sheer joy.

As I awakened to a passionate, deep, all encompassing
Love.  Extraordinairy, Miraculous, Awe Inspiring
It creeped up on me until it enveloped me and I
Completely and totally surrendered to its Power.
The beginnings of a life long romance

My baby son. How I love you, Sam.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

So sweet, the only kind of pure love, that of a mother. Love it.

Such a nice love song for Sam. He will want to read this when he is all grownup. And it should be printed on parchment, in calligraphy, and framed.

MANY, MANY thanks for all your kind comments on my love poem to my little boy.

I have had some fairly severe post partum depression where falling in love with him was my one light.  I did not write a poem for months and months and months and prose was challenging also.

Night before last this poem just sprang forth....I am eternally grateful AND grateful that I have a place to share my work!

With Purpose and Passion,

JULIE
