The grove was vibrant with a backdrop of green
Covered with profusion of wildflowers seen
Aspen nodded in breeze so soft
Leaves quaking in white branches aloft
A stillness of air over creeks that flow
Leading the mind to days of old

The beckoned hills of light Brigadoon
Imagining a trip to the face of the moon
Flags flying over Camelot’s days
John Carter on Mars with Barsoomian ways
Tarzan in trees, with mighty yells
Dragonships in seas of dark green swells

This always sounds better than nine to five
For an active mind is what keeps us alive
To visit the stars in Star Trek drive
Embracing it all,  taking in stride
Cardboard tanks, and swords of wood
Hopscotch games and tea parties good

What did we lose as we grew up
Why bitter dregs in bottom of cup
It seems to me that we grew down
And walk around with unconscious frown
Pull out the child that still hides inside
To make the imagination become alive

When you throw your pen and stare in space
Wearing  that frown upon your face
Listen to the little voice which says so small
Come out and play in the leaves of fall
Ride the magic carpet wherever you may
Ask that little child to come back to stay

Oh Logan ... this is positively wonderful!  Excellent cadence and rhyme ... and a beautiful message that I shall learn from right now. Just needed a little push to get me out the door and play a bit ... thank you!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Hi Logan, that was just the stanza I was going to quote. I think we grew down, you are so right.  And playing is the way to go, I see it now. I refuse to be sad anymore.

She is a sight,
her hair a bird in wind arrayed,
her fingers spread out against the wood
as if to make music,
her skirt in billow of sail,
yet, if you saw her eyes
you would feel morning catch you
with a child’s heart.

You would recognize
the sense of wonder dawning green and glorious,
and for a moment, remember also.

I hope you don't mind...Logan...your poem reminded me.  Thank you.

Logan..."once in the highlands, the highlands of Scotland, two weary hunters lost their way." Yes, twas Brigadoon. The child in me knows, for she has played in the hills and worn heather in her hair. Very well done indeed. Chris

Yes Logan, Nightshade has played in the heather on the hill.  I know because I was holding her hand.     Magic carpet rides and Camelot...or perhaps Brigadoon?  But of course dear Logan...we go there often to play and laugh.  There is a child in each and everyone of us...just waiting to escape into an imaginary world...but, Brigadoon is real.  I know this to be!     Beautiful write as usual and most enjoyed gentle man.

Logan you know I live in Brigadoon right?  I am now and will always be a child as it is a happy, wonderful place.  I loved this, and yes, it is "so you"!

"When you love someone enough, even miracles happen." *S* I still escape to Brigadoon at least once a year for a few moments of belief. *S*

It seems to me that we grew down
And walk around with unconscious frown

So unfortunately true... and such great advice you've given in this poem that flows flawlessly. *S*

What we were, the way we were
is wrapped in parchment, letters pure
so seek to see what it was that we
lost when we don't open books to see...

This is wonderful...but you knew that!
