Child of War

Beside the ruins of her town,
A little girl, with toys in hand,
Slowly came and settled down.
A flower in a wasted land
And even as she tried to play,
Her anxious ears were listening for
Swords of sound to pierce the day.
The warnings of approaching war.
She dealt with feelings of despair
And as she watched the soldiers pass,
She left behind her childhood there,
Deserted on the summer grass.
Her life into the maelstrom flung,
Was finished by the tank and gun.

Even when war in fought in a just cause, the innocent will always be affected.

A moving, thought provoking poem.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Such a heartbreaking poem about all the loss of innocence in war. (wipes tears) My heart cries out to all these poor children and all they have to cope with. (big hugggssssss) You are such a loving person and your heart shines with compassion! God Bless You, dearest friend! A sad but very well-written poem! You have such a beautiful heart, dearest Betty, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

With everything that is going on now my heart goes out mostly to the innocent children who will never again know what it is like to be carefree as only a child can be. *sigh* this poem is one we all need to read for it clearly tells us how war affects the children. I wish there was another way but in this world there isn't.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

BettyLou~
My friend, you write the heart so lovingly~
The cadence in your verse never skips a beat ...
though your thoughts cause my heart to do so~
Lovely, lovely~

Trillium,

A very powerful read. Yes, I think many of our hearts are with the children today as the world is an ever changing place.
