In wide river ever flowing,
lives the spirit of all knowing,
born in mountains never scaled,
spawned of winds by gods exhaled.

Weaned in icecapped mountain brook,
nurtured 'mid high alpine nook,
racing down high mountain's valley,
rising forth from torrent's salley.

Dropping to the plains temarious,
lurking in the depths precarious,
silent eddies ever swirling,
in the vortex, truths unfurling.

Confronted by no mortal being,
consciousness of death unseeing,
lost in streams of shifting time.
witness not pain's pantomime,

Four winds converge on river's crest,
north to south, and east to west,
bridging words, by man not written,
unknown truths by sorrow bitten.

Evils drift, by mortals phantomed,
amid the splendors yet unfathomed
unseen currents of the river,
spirit to the sea deliver.

Flows the river, eversending,
in its womb, life neverending,
flowing, flowing to the sea,
Spirit flows eternally.

I sat once beside the shores of Yellowstone Lake and marveled at the thought that I was observing the birth of our countries great rivers - and I thought about the journey those rivers would take to the sea... I like this a lot, Tim..

Primarily Anapestic Tetrameter here, m'friend (that's a whole lot more difficult to write than iambic...  )
