For Everything There Is A Season

From the kitchen, I watch
as leaves in infinite colors give way
to bare branches
and the cycle of life
to death completes itself
both unaware of and unheeded by my presence.

I stare at the dropping leaves
that cover the ground
beneath your tree
and remember how you fell to earth,
caught in my arms, for just a moment
when life and death joined
despite my frantic pleas.

Tears fall, clouding my eyes;
though my visions of you have never been clearer.
Each line, every tiny curve of you
was committed to memory
in those precious moments only days before
dust was given unto dust.

I gaze out to your tree and recall
the young sapling, strapped and bare,
place in the ground the same day as you.
Five years now it has survived
the changing of the seasons
and like me, has wintered the storms.

I turn from the window, my fingers touching
the familiar rounded swell of my growing belly
where your baby sister kicks. Like you were,
she is eager to bring
her unique color into my world;
and I will welcome change with open arms.

When winter has ended,
life begins anew.

~ Ruth

I wept with sadness for you through this poem and then my tears turned to tears of joy for the new life that grows within you. Although I know your pain will always be for your loss I know also you will receive healing in the new life that will soon be held in your arms. Magnificent and heartfelt writing. I am so very glad to see your poems again. Take care, dear one.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

May love and light always shine upon you!

Oh my Ruth ... this was so very touching. Such a delicate remembrance, woven beautifully through these metaphors. Exceptional writing, very much enjoyed.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and always for your warm welcome. I often times forget to post a warning with these type of poems that they do not come from my own life experiences, but rather the combination of experiences that pass before these ever seeing eyes. It always amazes me how true the feelings come across.
Thank you

Ruth,

You truly do write this poem as if you have and are experiencing it first hand. I can definately tell that this poem although not written from a first hand point of view was written from a heart full of love and compassion for life.

A wonderful way of expressing what passes before us in life. Sometimes great sorrows, sometimes abundant joy.
Well done Ruth. I really enjoy reading your work. Hope to read more from you soon.
Take care.

Your work always looks into the heart of
another and finds just the right touch to
offer comfort...whether the weave comes from
your own life expierence or one that you
have witnessed...or a combination of them
both...you know how to touch those around
you...because you are a weaver sweet
Ruth...this was a most touching read~
