A white candle burns on the mantle dim
Dripping wax that forms pools that slowly cools
She cries alone and she crying for him
Her face with salty tears from lonely fears

Dusty table setting not forgetting
Someone whom should have shared a meal one night,
She’s just surviving his not arriving,
Cries instead of eating by candlelight.

The wick is burnt and dark drives her to sleep,
And outside shadows still haunt her windows,
Memories in her pillow does she weep,
From the dark she’s cast dreams will come at last

From before a beginning was a end,
Lost a husband lover and her best friend.

Gloom

*sigh* sonnets are things of great beauty even when they are filled with the pain of loss. I wept during this read even though my soul was feasting on the sonnet that lit up the page. MAGNIFICENT. Her pain is one I share in my heart where the loneliness lives that she feels.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Now you did it, made me want to cry by candlelight again. A well written, grabbing poem.

Oh why did I have to read this right before bed?  Now I shall weep into my pillow for sure!!  Great write, Nancy.

Such a soft, lovely write. You pen this beautifully.

A sad portrait of your woven words, which once again, was a perfect sonnet.

Gloom,

I've been through times like this twice in my life and I can definately agree how much it hurts. Hoping you can feel happiness soon.

It never ceases to amaze me, that to some, one candle can be the light, while at other times, it is but a dim reminder...

a sad read...as intended...

Writing solemn sonnets is one of your strengths. Another is bringing your poems to life. Always a stirring read.

Music, tonal clear & pure,
Caresses the harshest of curves.
