Don't Wake the Day

by Michael

Oh fiery morning star don’t wake
the day and try erase the night,
for it is darkness where I dwell
and I can see without your light.

My journey is a painful one
and I’d prefer my face not seen.
Hold back the day, that is not come.
My senses are so very keen.

My sun is that of firefly’s glow,
soft starlight sprinkling down on me.
It is the darkness that I know
and where I need to always be.

For in the darkness, peace is born
and hope renewed in cricket song,
the damp of earth and mossy branch.
Oh how I pray this night be long.

I walk on weary legs to find
the solitude that is a friend.
I need the night to gather strength,
take memories, then sew and mend.

And when the day shall come at last,
you’ll find me whole with hope to give,
a gentle hand to reach for yours,
my kindness to forever live.

Michael, this is so moving. Yes, from the darkness, reach out and know that someone will be there. Very moving, thank you!

Sleep on, day, let night dwell still
sleep on, oh playsome light
on my windowsill
rest awhile, leave yet the gray
so my mind might rest
sleep on, oh young day
for night, it treats me best...

Bravo, Michael, I enjoyed this so!

This one keeps me close to my favorite time....nightime, when highway noise doesn't disturb the hoot of the owl or the crunching steps of the moose in the crisp snow under a starlit sky. There is a sense of solitude, sometimes loneliness, but usually thoughts of peace and quietude prevail.
A beautiful poem, with just a slight touch of wistful sadness and longing.
Yes, don't wake the day too soon, for the midnitesun is still roaming around.

(sad sigh) Such a sad poem of yearning and loneliness! (big hugggsssssss) I too throughout my boyhood have sat alone in despair in solitude, finding my own peace, though I cry wanting a friend to guide me along the way. (sad sigh) May you find peace through the darkness and then jump back in the light when your heart leaps in joy in love! (big hugggsssssss) Wonderful poem, dearest Michael! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

ahh, this is beautifully done, Micheal. The longing for night to stay with us just a bit longer is sometimes overwhelming.   I adore this.

Sometimes the heart needs the solace of solitude and silence.

Auguste I've had that feeling, sometimes we need to go through darkness to see the day in a new light. It has to happen, is a promise on a new day(as I write this I need to believe that). Thanks for this one.

There are so many could identify with this heartfelt poem of loneliness and the need to cling to the night for solace.  Just a fantastic piece of writing Michael, I really enjoyed this.
