Listening to every heart

In Lieu Of…..

it falls to me to read each day
obituaries of passings away
to list them for files you see
so I often read bits of history

I’m always filled with deep respect
of these good lives, what they left
a person’s spirit lives on, you see
in form of a “donated in memory”

so I’ve thought, what would be mine
what words would form a single line
how best to leave behind my soul
how best to pick a proven goal

in place of flowers, please stand proud
instead of money, talk to crowds
to compensate for my lack of being
recite some poetry, set the scene

in memory of me, read to a child
in exult of me, pick flowers wild
in my name, donate your books
then remember me, when you look

upon a daydream, or a chore
imagine me come through your door
to share a smile, a hug, some cheer
if you cry, smile through your tears

so my dear, in lieu of
missing me and my host
give simple thanks, my sweet,
to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost

I'd thank the Lord she crossed my path,
For sunshine bright, she brought to me,
Her words through grace and dignity.

So gentle is the spirit of you. I am always touched so deeply by your words. Now just remember when your time comes there will be an endless number of words from your friends to let the whole world know just how special you are......but in the meantime you are not allowed to go anywhere for a very long time.
