{revised} in direction of north to south an old stone bridge at one end I walked a lonely road today on it, found my spiritual friend lined straight on either side of me, hedge trees now shed of leave kept their apples of lime green tight, like balls hung on Christmas eve here recent stains of “making way” show up in machine’s road mark I step mutely down the middle, eyes rest on fresh scarred bark abandoned long ago, this road, it saw travelers of many kind I heard faded voices of children with chores and school on their mind phantoms dressed in pant of denim pale school dress of cotton twill under morning’s sunlight gleam their voice and laughter shrill I see an ancient buckboard tugged by stubborn mule hear the ramrod’s lonely call as he traveled in morning’s cool with the sun upon my back, I espied there in the brush a white of tail, a doe, a buck, whisk away through the bush there, overhead, stretched a skeleton cottonwood fingers scraping sky never again dropping leaves to ground awaits lightning’s strike to die paw-prints in dirt’s damp below gave view to hidden night’s life in the ice of winter’s air came his spirit emanating strife I waited for the sound of him it was there deep within my soul would the wolf come man again for either’s howl is whole it was his search within my eyes we spoke so, silently he looked on toward the cottonwood then disappeared quietly sun was soon then covered as winds blew in clouds of rain I left those years of long ago returning to the present again this lone deserted road, still, beneath my feet, just so a decaying abandoned bridge, rocked here, from years ago takes my mind a’journeying, whisks my breath away I wonder the wander of “them,” and at the lives that stay ©Karilea Rilling Jungel revised 14 October 2001 circa 5 November 2000 [This message has been edited by Sunshine (edited 10-14-2001).] |

I too wandered the road with you and saw a vision of such wonder that the silence sang with feelings of awe. This poem is so incredibly beautiful that I lost myself in the vision of it and had to read it 2 more times just to enjoy the feelings it gave me. Thank you so very much, Sunshine. Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

Untrafficed right of way allowing a clear view of wherever one's mind may wander. Such peace in such timeless settings. Enjoyed. |
