--- The Hero's Heart --- From the ashen, lifeless lips, Something filled the air, A dark cloud slowly spread. With grief, pain and despair. Somewhere was a father Who would lose his only son. For a little boy somewhere A lonely life had just begun. Mothers, Sisters daughters eyes, Would fill with tears of grief. Their husband, brother, father, Taken by a thief. The grimly hooded thief stood by. In silence he did wait. Here to take this quarry To his eternal fate. We arrived in time this once. We turned the thief away. There would be no pain or anguish, No tears of grief today. Daddy's coming home this time No broken hearts, no sorrow. The father, husband, brother, son Will live to see the morrow. We do not want your praises Or accolades, or cheers. Because although we do not know you, We would have shared the tears. . (I watched a television show in which an EMT said that even the greatest poet could not put into words, the feeling of saving a life. Since I have a friend who was an EMT for years and have discussed that very feeling .... I had to try to put it into words.) No one ever listened themselves into trouble.
