                              The Opening – Part 2

Perhaps it was but a moment, or
longer, time runs swift covering movements
when a heart is rendered, bleeding,
but soon tears crusted, rivulets dried
on her pink cheeks, her hands fumbled
over the package, still in her lap.
The velvet gown now darker with droplets
of life’s source, she did not think of
this, but only of him, as an audible
sound escaped her lips, his memory fresh
as his face crossed her mind.

                              “Ah, love, now, now when?”

She picked up the bone knife, carefully
slit open the missive, taking mind not
to break the seal of wax,
the last time she would see it ~
                              his symbol, his emblem,
                              his truth, his
                              sign.

Slowly, the tears began again with the first line….

ahhh Lady...
you tease us while you please us so.....
holding my breath for more

When your own emptiness is all that's getting through
There comes a point when you're not sure why you're still talking
I passed that point long ago

OK, so things that go bump in the night might not reveal what you think. I'm waiting here for the sequel. Lady, you have created a character we all want to know more about, where her emotions go with this letter we can surmise. But I can only guess at the whole story. You are spinning a wonderful web for us.

Okay, I'm hooked ... what did the first line say?

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Devilishly clever, indeed - I like the way you built this story - the style is consistently good
